On October 11, 2022, CEADER convened a one-day Gender and Leadership Sensitization Program for teenage girls at Dr. Soyemi Secondary School in FESTAC Town. The sensitization was organized to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child with the theme “Our Time is Now, Our Rights, Our Future”. The sensitization event sought to raise the participants’ awareness on their leadership capacity by their identification of the characteristics of a leader through a participatory process that convinced the girls that they are indeed leaders today and in the future.
On June 21, 2022, WLP and CEADER commenced a 4 day in-person National Institute on Youth Leaders, Political Participation and Technology for young people in Nigeria. This institute follows the virtual Africa Regional Institute for Young People that was convened in April 2022 which involved young leaders from 8 African Country. The Nigerian institute brings together young people under age 30 and seeks to strengthen the capacity of young people in Nigeria to effectively engage in democratic governance in a sustainable manner. Specific objectives of the institute are to redefine leadership as inclusive, transformational and horizontal; to strengthen participants’ capacity to utilize various social and conventional media tools for effective communications; and build participants’ capacity to the replicate training and advocacy projects developed during the institute.
To mark the International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2021, CEADER organized a sensitization program at Jomal Secondary School, FESTAC. The program sensitized the students on the concept of human rights and linked the full realization of rights to women/girls involvement in leadership.
On July 15, 2021, CEADER organized a leadership sensitization program for teenage girls at Salt Hill Secondary School to mark the World Youth Skills Day and to build the leadership skills of young girls.
CEADER convened a HeforShe activity at SaltHill Secondary School in FESTAC. The aim of the program was to engage boys and young men as agents of change in resisting the culture of violence against women and girls, and support women and girls for leadership positions.
CEADER convened a one day sensitization program for selected teenage girls in FESTAC Town with the theme: “Raising Young Advocates for Best Practices on Health”. The program sensitized participants on leadership that is inclusive aiming to raise young leaders who drive change on matters related to health in their community. This program was done under the Right to Health thematic area of CEADERs focus.
The sensitization especially focused on listing/identifying the qualities of a leader, speaking-out against all forms of GBV and raising young leaders in the pandemic and beyond. This program is one of CEADER’s activities to mark the ongoing 2020 16 Days of Activism against GBV.
A skill building project organized by CEADER to build the capacity of selected girls from poor homes to earn an income to boost their ability to access digital space and learning. The girls were trained on how to produce liquid soap, pastries and slippers beading.
